田納西州查塔努加（Chattanooga）一名警員本月初在住宅火警中衝入濃煙密布的公寓，成功協助救出一名母親與兩名年幼子女。警方公開的隨身攝錄機畫面顯示，現場火勢已蔓延至大門附近，但警員仍冒險進入火場。
Eli Rogers於5月1日晚上接近10時接報到場處理火警。根據Chattanooga Police Department說法，當時火焰已在公寓入口附近燃燒，鄰居則向警員表示，屋內仍有人被困。

警方表示，羅傑斯隨即衝入充滿濃煙的公寓，協助救出Rachel Blaylock以及她的兩名子女，包括4歲女童Marlowe與10歲男童Charles。
警方公開的畫面顯示，羅傑斯抱起年幼女童離開火場，而布萊洛克則帶同另一名孩子跟隨其後逃生。
警方向媒體發表聲明指出，警員雖然並非接受消防訓練，但宣誓時承諾保護民眾，而羅傑斯正是履行了這份責任。
布萊洛克接受當地電視台訪問時表示，在警員進入火場前，她一度不知道如何獨自帶兩名孩子逃離現場。
她說：「我一直在想，我究竟要怎樣帶兩個孩子走下樓梯？他當時立刻抱起女兒，而且願意再次走進火場。」
警方表示，事件中無人受傷。查塔努加警方其後在Facebook發文讚揚羅傑斯的行動，形容他展現出勇氣以及對社區的承擔。
